For our Bouquet of the Week for 6th – 10th July we are delighted to offer a beautiful mixed posy featuring Scented Pinks, Phlox and Snapdragons. Summer bunches are always a little special because we are able to grow so many varieties to fill them and this whole bunch has been grown right here on our farm in Cornwall.
Our Scented Pinks flowers are in flower from May – October and are grown a stones throw from the flower barn where we pack our flowers. We grow a range of colours including pale pink, white, lilac and purple. Although they are called ‘pinks’ their name actually comes from the ‘pinked’ edges of their petals. Pinks flowers have a lovely clove-like fragrance and a good vase life. We pick and send our scented pinks ‘in bud’ so that they open up once they arrive. We grow our Cornish Scented Pinks indoors in tunnels and in our large glasshouse, taking new cuttings each year. After two years we replace the plants with new ones to continue to give us good quality flowers & stems. The Pinks are our largest summer crop and we are very proud of these wonderful flowers!
The Phlox are grown in tunnels near to the flower barn where we pack the orders. We have 3 colours (white, pink and purple) and they have the most wonderful fresh scent which is vaguely Cucumbery/Minty. These are a firm favourite here!
The Snapdragons will be a mix of indoor/outdoor grown flowers and may be a mix of Pink or Cream depending on what variety we are able to pick. These Snapdragons are grown by us from tiny little plug plants which come from a British grower. The plugs are only a centimetre or two tall when they are planted and its hard at that stage in early spring to imagine they will reach the size they do.
